Position Overview

Under the general guidance of the Manager or designate, and as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of an injury prevention and early intervention occupational health & safety program for the clients served under the mandate related to Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (i.e., Safe Patient Handling, Workstations, Safe Manual Material Handling). Assessing job functions and completing Physical Demands Analyses.
  • Participates in the Disability Case Management process including alternate work duties, graduated return to work, modified work and transitional work.
  • Performing ergonomic assessments as required.
Experience
  • A minimum of 2 years recent related work experience required.
  • Previous experience working in an Occupational Health & Safety setting required.
  • Previous experience performing ergonomic assessments, report writing and making recommendations required.
  • Previous experience relating to the functions, services and processes of the Workers Compensation Board and HEB.
  • Previous experience in the development, implementation and delivery of training programs for staff related to musculoskeletal injury prevention.
  • Previous experience in the performance of Physical Demands Analysis (PDA).
  • Computer knowledge and experience with basic database software applications an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • University degree in a relevant field: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety an asset.
  • Professional training in ergonomics preferred.
  • Basic training in statistical and epidemiological methods required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the applicable licensing body is required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Extensive working knowledge of Occupational and Environmental Safety & Health (OESH) policies/protocols/programs specific to:
    • Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention including Safe Patient Handling, Safe Manual Material Handling and Workstation Design.
    • Disability Case Management, Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba programs and processes.
    • Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and regulations and applicable standards related to ergonomics and musculoskeletal injury prevention.
  • A working knowledge of research program evaluation methodology.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the terminology and principles involved in various occupational health & safety disciplines and the management of individuals with injuries/illnesses essential.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to function proficiently in a computerized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
