Job Summary:

The CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute (CCMR) through the support of the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is developing an innovative, single cell technologies (SCT) research platform that requires a Platform Manager, a Platform Technician and a CRISPR Technician. The SCT Platform will include state-of-the-art instrumentation enabling: 1) the isolation of single cells (BD Bioscience, FACSMelody); 2) the characterization of single cells (10X Genomics, Chromium Connect and X); 3) the quantitative phenotyping of single cells (Molecular Devices, ImageXpress HT.ai; Akoya Biosciences, PhenoCycler Fusion; BioTechne ProteinSimple, Jess); and 4) Cancer modelling (CRISPR Cas9 library).

Reporting directly to the Director of the Platform, the CRISPR technician will work with researchers to design, generate and organize human and mouse CRISPR libraries; perform molecular cloning/sub-cloning of individual CRISPR vectors; perform in silico analyses/sequence retrieval for CRISPR sgRNA design; prepare and send samples for DNA sequencing; retrieve, grow and store plasmid stocks; generate viral particles and CRISPR-modified cell lines; provide training; assist with generation of novel CRISPR models (CRISPR knockout; gene modification; CRISPRa/i); participate in the Advisory User Committee meetings; and, seek out/attend continuing education and professional development opportunities to maintain up-to-date knowledge of approaches.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BSc or MSc in Science, preferably in life sciences, a cancer-related field or relevant scientific discipline
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word; PowerPoint; Excel)
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary research teams
  • Experience preparing scientific presentations/literature
  • Must hold a satisfactory employment record
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada

  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail with the ability to work independently and prioritize work to meet deadlines and meet milestones
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work quickly, accurately and with decorum while under deadline pressure and continuous interruptions

Preferred:

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with gene editing technologies (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) and their application in research
  • Prior knowledge/experience with molecular biology techniques including but not limited to molecular cloning/sub-cloning, primer design, bacterial transformation and plating, PCR, gel electrophoresis and DNA sequencing
  • Experience with cell culture and virus (e.g., lentivirus, retrovirus, adenovirus) production
  • Effective communication skills with diverse audiences

Asset:

  • Ability to speak French
