The Warrior Caregiver Coordinator is jointly responsible for the day to day functioning of the Churchill Health Centre’s Warrior Caregiver program. The incumbent will work closely with the Men’s Mental Health Manager and will report to the Manager of Community Services & Decision Support to help expand and sustain Churchill’s wellness centre in order to host life-promotion activities. Whereas the Manager curates and designs the ongoing operations, the Coordinator executes and implements activities, however both work in tandem.
- A minimum of 1-year education and/or mentorship experiences especially with vulnerable and/or marginalized populations.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Indigenous traditions, practices, and protocols (such as with traditional medicines, drumming, ceremony, regalia, trapping, hunting, butchering, etc.).
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- A degree, diploma or certificate in a related area is an asset, such as Community Development, Recreation & Sport, Education, Social Services (counselling), Volunteer Services, Project Management, or Social Innovation.
- Intermediate level of proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
- Eligible for registration with applicable professional licensing body if applicable.
- Licenses and certifications in various land-based activities such as Manitoba Boating license, PAL, Hunter Safety, Wilderness First Aide, Class 4 driver’s license, Polar Bear Guard.
- The ability to drive, including the willingness to become certified in a Class 4 driver’s and operate machinery such as a snowmobile, ATV, and/or boat.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with small groups.
- Demonstrated practice with Indigenous communities.
- Must be innovative, highly motivated and an energetic team player.
- Excellent verbal communication skills are required to develop strong interpersonal relationship between different groups, age ranges and especially groups from different cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
- Excellent written communication skills are required to produce correspondence.
- Experience working under pressure and managing unexpected changes under stress.
- Strong capacity to work alone at times and in small groups away from other staff and colleagues.
- A willingness to travel throughout the year, often being away from the community for days at a time.
- Must maintain the strictest confidence in dealing with highly sensitive information.
- Ability to act with initiative, judgment, tact and diplomacy is essential.
