Assistant Superintendent of Staff Support & Relations

The Winnipeg School Division is inviting applications of interest for the newly created position of Assistant Superintendent of Staff Support & Relations. The successful candidate will lead a new department of Staff Support & Relations (formerly Human Resources) designed to support WSD staff, onboard seamlessly new staff, and engage with staff in positive ways to promote a culture of joy, love and rigour.

Position Overview

The Winnipeg School Division is seeking a dynamic, deep thinking, and compassionate leader to join our team as the Assistant Superintendent of Staff Support and Relations. This key leadership role is responsible for creating a positive, supportive, and service-based Staff Support and Relations Department. A major focus of this position is on equity and truth and reconciliation, ensuring that our practices reflect our commitment to these values. The successful candidate will build a team that is focused on supporting schools and staff through genuine engagement while recruiting and onboarding talent.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Staff Support and Relations Department, fostering a culture of positivity, support, and service excellence.

Develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that promote staff well-being, engagement, and satisfaction.

Lead the division’s efforts in equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring these principles are embedded in all practices and organizational culture.

Champion truth and reconciliation initiatives within the division, working to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and incorporating Indigenous perspectives into our practices.

Oversee staff relations, including conflict resolution, employee support services, and professional development programs.

Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in human resources and staff support.

Collaborate with school leaders, teachers, staff, and other stakeholders to identify and address staff needs and concerns.

Provide mentorship and professional growth opportunities for personnel in the department.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of staff support programs and initiatives, using data to drive continuous improvement.

Represent the division in negotiations and labour relations matters, ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all staff.

Qualifications

A minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field.

Must have experience as a school principal.

Extensive experience in human resources, staff support, or a related area, preferably within the education sector.

Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a deep understanding of truth and reconciliation Calls to Action.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to create and maintain a positive and supportive work environment.

Experience in conflict resolution and employee relations.

High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.
