Bilingual - Telcom Installation Technician

We are looking for a Bilingual - Telcom Installation Technician to join the Xplore Inc. team in the Ottawa, ON region. Reporting to the Field Technician Manager, this role will be responsible for the installation, service/repair, upgrading of residential and small business customer equipment. This includes fibre, satellite, fixed wireless, wireless routers and home phone. The majority of work is completed outdoors in all weather conditions and includes climbing ladders.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing service and customer support during field visits or dispatches
• Diagnosing errors or technical problems and determining proper solutions
• Managing all on-site installation, repair, maintenance and test tasks
• Maintaining accurate and timely service reports
• Managing the inventory management cycle and annual counts. Returning inventory that requires repair.
• Producing timely and detailed service reports
• Audit previous installation and repair work to ensure Xplore Inc. standards have been met and if not, completing work at the customer premises for compliance
• Operating a vehicle in a safe manner and use field automation systems
• Following all company filed procedures and protocols
• Cooperating with technical teams and sharing information across the organization

The ideal candidate will possess:

• 1-year related work experience or a degree/diploma from a related discipline
• Bilingual (French & English)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
• Experience with fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments
• Experience handling, configuring and installing Network Equipment (ex. Ericsson, Ceragon, Alpha DC Power Systems, Ciena, Cisco)
• Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent experience would be an asset
• Experience with Fibre Optic troubleshooting tools & test sets (OTDR, Power Meters)
• Strong troubleshooting skills. The ability to break problems down using an Analytical approach
• Exposure to industry standards for Health & Safety, Construction & CSA
• Working knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP
• Basic understanding of fixed wireless/ Fibre Optic network architecture and infrastructure
• A credit card capable of carrying work related expenses
• The ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions
• Ability to work away from home. Long days & weekends as required
