Educational Assistant

Yellowhead Koinonia Christian School

1 - 6.5 hours/day M-F (32.5 hours/week)

1-6.5 hours/day Tuesday and Thursday (13 hours/week)

Educational Assistants are to assist in the education, development, and training of students as well as to assist in maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of the school in general. Educational Assistants must work under the supervision of a teacher and/or administrator and take direction from the professional(s) to whom they are assigned.

Responsibilities:

Support the instruction of students.

Supports students who may have special behavioral/intellectual needs.

Consult regularly with the teacher, and/or administration for the benefit of any student.

Follow the same Code of Conduct as certified teachers and are expected to develop trusting relationships with children.

Supervise students in structured (classroom) and unstructured settings (hallway, recess, lunch).

Assist with the implementation of material and programs designed and prescribed by teachers.

Accompany and supervise classes or groups on excursions or field trips and assist the teacher with any classroom tasks when requested.

Experience, Education and Requirements:

A vibrant Christian faith

Experience working with children is an asset. (Childcare, church programs)

Training or the willingness to be trained in strategies to support students with disabilities

Attentive and organized.

Flexible and adaptable

Good communication skills

This position requires an original copy of a current record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check within a month of hiring.
