Invites applications for the position of:
Financial Analyst
One (1) Temporary Full-Time Position
Exempt Level 6 - $43.60 - $55.38 per hour
Start Date - April 28, 2025 to April 28, 2026
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Budget Manager, the Financial Analyst is responsible for overseeing specific budgets, financial reporting and data analysis. This includes monitoring, analyzing and maintaining of accounts, projects and program budgets including the review and preparation of various internal and external reports. In addition, the position will assist with various accounting functions.
Major Responsibilities:
- Monitor revenue and expenses related to program and project budgets including the tracking and analyzing of all expenditure and ensuring compliance to the Ministry Technical Paper and Board policies
- Assist in preparation of internal financial reports, including monitoring budgets and variance analysis
- Support departments to plan, budget, monitor and report on the Board’s spend
- Prepare comprehensive analytics, reports and presentations for budget owners and the Board, analyze financial and non-financial data to support decision making
- Evaluate specific programs and expenditures and implement enhancements to meet the needs of the Board
- Verify coding of transactions and prepare journal entries ensuring accuracy of financial reporting
- Assist in Finance departmental workflow and duties as assigned
- Liaise with municipalities in the collection and reporting of Education Development Charges
- Lead or participate in special projects related to program, budgeting and/or finance or providing expertise with other issues within the scope of the Department
- Special projects, assignment and ad hoc duties as necessary related to Budget and Financial analysis
Qualifications and Experience:
- Professional accounting designation or equivalent
- 3 to 5 years of related work experience
- Strong analytical skills with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail, demonstrated problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products, particularly Excel
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with experience in the effective management of multiple projects and demonstrated ability to successfully complete tasks
- Experience in SAP an asset
- Experience in Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) an asset
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office
- Excellent communications skills (verbal and written)
- Demonstrated customer service and problem-solving skills
- Well organized and attentive to details and deadlines
