Interested staff members are required to complete the following on-line application to the attention of: The Recruitment Team. This position is effective immediately and ending on or about September 30, 2025 and is due to term funding.

This position is responsible for the purchasing of designated supplies, equipment and services and providing information regarding existing laws, trade agreements, regulations, taxes and customs in a timely, cost-efficient and effective manner using current procurement methods, and in compliance with Board policies and procedures and Broader Public Sector Directive.

Major Responsibilities :

To competitively bid designated supplies, equipment, and services. Pre-qualify bidders where necessary and evaluate, negotiate and award within delegated authority. Create and write contracts, and process purchase orders.

To administer Board contracts on designated supplies, equipment and services to ensure compliance. Monitor reports from vendors to measure performance in order to ensure minimal risk and exposure.

To maintain a high level of customer service to internal and external clients.

To review, modify and process purchase requisitions issued by internal clients. Expedite as required.

To maintain positive relations by developing new and existing vendors, through regular meetings, annual vendor workshop, vendor and school visits.

To assist and provide team leaders and manager with activity reports, project lists and documented savings reports as required.

To assist team leaders and manager in reporting to senior management, trustees and internal clients, information as required.

To initiate and develop cooperative purchasing agreements with other agencies, i.e. Joint Board Consortium, York Public Buyers Cooperative to reduce costs, etc.

To research new products, sources and purchase methods by attending trade shows, conferences and networking with other public agencies.

To assist in the identification, removal and/or disposal of surplus equipment.

To work as an active member of the Purchasing Services’ team.

To attend meetings as required.

To perform other duties as assigned.

Line of Responsibility:

Responsible to the Manager of Purchasing Services and/or Senior Buyer.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Secondary School Graduation Diploma with two years of post secondary education in a related field is required.

Successful completion of a minimum of 48 hours of course work with either NIGP and/or SCMA Purchasing Associations.

Minimum two years of related experience is required.

A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software is required. Internet research skills are required.

Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to own transportation.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:

As per the Collective Agreement (A.11.7 and A.11.8), those twelve month employees filling vacancies as a result of a job posting are to remain twelve months at their positions.

Ten month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year.
