We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Holy Family Elementary School team. The HFES school acknowledges and respects, and are grateful for the opportunity to work, learn and play within the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. This position is for a Primary Teacher/Learning Assistance Teacher. You will assume responsibility for teaching in the primary wing (K-3), leading Educational Assistants in their support roles, and facilitating student integration into classes and the wider school community, as is appropriate.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary education

• Recent teaching experience Grades K to 7

• Experience working with student Individual Educational Plans and Behavioral Support Plans

• Experience teaching prescribed Catholic education programs and experience integrating Catholic education throughout the curriculum;

• Willingness to complete additional in-service learning in the areas of ADHD and Autism

• Additional Teaching Qualifications in ADHD and Autism is an asset

• Additional Teaching Qualifications in Special Education is an asset

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• Successful implementation of effective instructional practices when working with student Individual Educational Plans and Behavioural Support Plans

• The ability to apply assessment for, as and of student learning within an IEP

• Ability to provide positive intervention in a developmentally responsive way

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, Educational Assistants, families, administration, other staff members, and consultants

• Ability to support targeted intervention with students by utilizing diagnostic assessments and scaffold interventions based on data

• Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program

• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population

Additional Information

• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
