We are currently seeking a talented Grade 5 teacher to join the team at Christ the King Elementary School. Christ the King Elementary School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dunn First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. CKES is a K-7 school of approximately 366 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. We assist students in developing a relationship with Jesus and appreciation of self and others. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This position provides support for individual students or small groups of students who have special needs. These needs may be academic, medical, social-emotional, or a combination of all. Students with such needs may demonstrate behaviours that require patience, compassion, and knowledge of strategies that support neuro-diverse learners.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education

• Recent experience teaching elementary grades

• Recent experience and/or training teaching students who are English Language Learners;

• Experience adapting curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities;

• Experience developing individual education plans and student support plans;

• Experience teaching literacy programs, including conducting running records and guided reading practices

• Experience incorporating First Peoples Principles of Learning across the curriculum

• Experience using various technology, including Epson boards, will be an asset

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• Strong ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities;

• Strong ability to develop differentiated instructional opportunities for students, to collaborate with LAT teachers and educational assistants;

• Ability to use trauma-informed approaches to develop effective relationships with students

• Ability to assess students’ learning and report progress to parents/guardians using Assessment for Learning and outcome-based grading principles on a competency-based curricular framework;

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants, and community agencies;

• Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program including religious education;

• Willingness to support the school mission statement and participate in all religious activities;

• An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community;

• Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/ territory first.

• Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent

• Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.

• Candidates who possess qualifications, skills, and personal attributes that are appropriate for the assignment who do not hold a valid teaching certificate, at request, may be granted a letter of permission as a teacher issued in accordance with the Educat

• Preference will be given to the candidate who is a practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church, committed to excellence in Catholic Education.

• If you are a permanent (indeterminate) teacher in a Yukon school, you will need to seek permission from your Superintendent to apply on this temporary job
