We are currently seeking a talented Learning Together Program Teacher to join the Elijah Smith Elementary School team. In this role, you will collaborate with educators, parents, and community members to develop and facilitate inclusive educational experiences for children and families. This is a dynamic position that requires creativity, organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering an environment where learning is a shared journey. Elijah Smith Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 elementary school, located on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än council. We pride ourselves on integrating on the land learning and social-emotional learning into the curriculum. This position provides an opportunity to work as a Learning Together Program Teacher at ESES for the 2024/2025 school year.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education

• Experience in preschool/Kindergarten or Primary programing focused on Play Based education (such as Learning Together);

• Experience teaching in classrooms with a wide range of abilities and learning styles;

• Specialization in early childhood or primary education; or equivalent

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• Experience in specific teaching style such as Reggio Emilia and or Montessori would be an asset.

• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population;

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration, other staff members and consultants;

• Experience in or willingness to learn about and incorporate the Reggio Emilia approach;

• Experience in or willingness to learn and incorporate components of a Montessori approach;

• Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills;

• Ability to deliver differentiated, integrated, student-centered teaching;

• Ability to lead early learning activities, including stories, music and art, to help children grow linguistically, physically, socially and emotionally;

• Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;

• Ability to be flexible to support students in unique situations;

• Ability to integrate experiential learning opportunities in the curriculum;

• Ability to develop a play based environment.

• Commitment and willingness to support and implement school wide philosophies and initiatives.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/ territory first.

• If you are a permanent (indeterminate) teacher in a Yukon school, you will need to seek permission from your Superintendent to apply on this temporary job

• Relocation may be available.
