Description of the role

Reporting to the Cook on shift, the Assistant Cook assists in the preparation and service of meals according to established procedures and contributes to a nutritious and enjoyable dining experience for residents and guests.

Reports to: Manager of Support Services
Hours of work: Part time or Full time, weekend rotation
Work schedule: Day shift and weekend rotation

Responsibilities

• Ensures the preparation of meals (breakfast, dinner, and supper) according to the provided recipes and health and safety standards.
• Coordinates dining room preparation, including setting tables and dishwashing. • Serves meals according to set menu and portion and presentation standards.
• Monitors meal service, ensuring that quality meals are delivered to the correct recipients and that guidelines, such as those for special diets, are followed.
• Ensures that the main kitchen, the kitchenettes, and the dining areas are well-maintained.

Requirements, Skills and Abilities

• High School diploma
• DEP diploma in institutional cooking (preferred)
• Bilingual oral communication skills: English/Basic French
• Excellent teamwork and customer service skills
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Punctual and organized
• Work experience in a senior-living environment an asset
• Physical requirement: Ability to lift or push various tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and stand for extended periods
