Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, project-based position

Employment Conditions: Morning, Day, Evening, Overnight, Weekend

Travel Requirements: Travel will be required to Aecons sites throughout Canada

Essential Function and Responsibilities

Reporting to the appropriate site supervisor, the Ironworker will be responsible for providing full cycle, in depth knowledge and support for the profession of Ironworker to ensure Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. achieves their general and specific project objectives.

  • Read blueprints and specifications to lay out the work
  • Unload and stack steel units so each piece can be hoisted as needed
  • Erect and install scaffolding, construction cranes, derricks and other hoisting equipment
  • Assemble rigging (cables, pulleys, hooks) to move heavy equipment and materials
  • Attach cables from a crane or derrick and direct crane operators with hand signals or radios
  • Position steel units, align holes and insert temporary bolts
  • Check the alignments and join steel parts by bolting or tack welding them with an electric arc process
  • Assemble and erect prefabricated metal structures
  • Select, cut, bend, position, and secure steel bars or wire mesh in concrete forms to reinforce the concrete
  • Install ornamental and other structural metalwork such as curtain walls, metal stairways, railings and power doors
  • Unload and install pre-cast components

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • 2-3 years experience Interpretation of structural, architectural, engineering and erection drawings.
  • 2-3 years experience rigging, hoisting, lifting, and working with cranes
  • 2-3 years experience using pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic tools.
  • 2-3 years experience industrial construction experience.
  • Physical strength and stamina
  • Manual dexterity
  • A safety-conscious attitude
  • The ability to work with others in a team
  • Must be willing to work in remote job locations

Compensation and Benefits

  • $45.33 - $50.00 hourly rate
  • Shift rotation to change per project requirements
    • 5 days on, 2 days off
    • 10 days on, 4 days off
    • 14 days on, 7 days off
    • 21 days on, 7 days off
    • 6 days on, 1 day off
  • 10 hours per day hours flexible to change
  • Overtime is given at the rate of 1.5 times the employee straight time hourly rate after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.
  • Overtime will be paid when an employee works on any regularly scheduled day off
  • All compensation and benefits will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement
  • 6% vacation and 4% statutory holiday pay will be provided in accordance with the Collective Agreement

  • Primary work location at site in Edmonton/ Sherwood Park/ Fort Saskatchewan (and surrounding areas), Alberta with work and travel required throughout Alberta
