What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the construction of Canadas first Small Modular Reactor on the SMR-X Project. Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase, design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the responsible Project Controls Director, the Lead Planner will support with all scheduling and planning processes and ensuring the execution of those activities are done efficiently and effectively. The Lead Planner will be responsible for coordinating schedules, optimizing resource allocation, and maintaining project timelines. Additionally, this role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring the successful completion of project milestones.

What Youll Do Here:

  • Develop and maintain all the required project schedules and ensure integrity of data across the entire project life cycle.
  • Perform resource planning and analysis. Forecast the requirement of various types of resources including labor, materials, and equipment over the course of the project based on work fronts analysis.
  • Performs productivity analysis of construction operations and verifies. Establishes productivity basis to be utilized in estimates, as developed in concurrence with Construction. Reviews labor estimates for reasonableness.
  • Prepare required progress reports and dashboards to provide project status updates to all internal and external clients.
  • Analyze schedule variance, float and trending and monitor schedule KPIs.
  • Develop progress measurement process and analyze progress and performance data.
  • Manage schedule change notices and forecast project impact. Implement corrective action when performance trends deviate from baseline
  • Perform audits on various schedules including those produced by subcontractors, prepare all required output documents.
  • Apply continuous improvement in integration of schedules prepared by various partners and subcontractors to fully integrate and sequence all project activities.
  • Collaborate with all cross functional teams to maintain, add, or modify the schedule data and plans.
  • Forensic analysis of projects schedules, produce recommendations for improvement and analyze schedule delays.
  • Oversee and support schedule 5D integration process with the 3D model and cost and report the outputs which includes cash flow and sequence simulations.
  • Oversee and support project change management, including subcontractor claims, change requests, claims and dispute resolution.
  • Identifies commercial/schedule risks and develops mitigation measures to ensure timely and high-quality planning and scheduling-related deliverables.
  • Understanding of Monte Carlo risk analysis process and contribute to Risk Mitigation Plan.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative culture and environment that is open, inclusive and respectful.
  • Hire, supervise, coach, develop and mentor project controls personnel (i.e. Project Planning and Scheduling Specialist, Planner / Scheduler.)

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within the infrastructure and construction industry.
  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling and managing complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of the Earned Value Management principles.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead project planning and scheduling staff.
  • Proven problem solver with sound judgment who accepts ownership and accountability.
  • Expert level knowledge of project Planning and Scheduling software which may include Primavera P6 & TILOS
  • SAP, Hard Dollar, PowerBI, and Synchro knowledge will be an asset.
