What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the construction of Canadas first Small Modular Reactor on the SMR-X Project. Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase, design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the Material Manager, the Material Coordinator is responsible to coordinate and facilitate the purchase of commodities, equipment, and services for the DNNP Nuclear site.

What You'll Do Here:

  • The primary function of this position will be to ensure the timely delivery, receipt and processing of project materials, including permanenting & temporary plant materials, tools, consumables and engineered items.
  • Ensure that all quality related materials are handled in accordance with the quality program, and ensure compliance with the storage of pressure boundary materials
  • Maintain effective communication between the project team, engineering, and procurement to ensure materials are delivered in accordance with the required quality requirements while adhering to the project schedule.
  • Ensure all materials are signed into the Comprehensive Work Package in accordance with the Construction Installation Testing Plan prior to release of the material to the field.
  • Work closely with the Procurement team to develop reports and provide updates to the project team as required regarding material deliveries, delivery costs, and expedite costs.
  • Ensuring quality, reliability and responsiveness to operational needs which meet or exceed organizational expectations.
  • Monitor material deliveries to assist the procurement and materials management teams identify critical deliveries to site.
  • Coordinate delivery of client supplied equipment material
  • Expediting of materials as required
  • Receiving responsibilities to manage the flow of goods including receiving, inspection, inventory management, and performing the SAP goods receipt
  • Assist the Procurement Department with supplier recommendations for materials or services
  • Assist Materials Management Lead with material status updates.
  • Maintain official material receiving and vendor documentation in the electronic records management system.
  • Coordinate with IPD partners for the delivery of major equipment.
  • Participate in regular schedule reviews
  • Assist with generating purchase orders
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 2-5 years experience in the Nuclear Construction Industry in a procurement or project coordination role
  • Completion of Materials and Operations Management Program at the College or University Level an asset
  • Enrollment in or completion of SCMP Accreditation Program is preferred
  • Microsoft Office Products
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities is critical.
  • Good Interpersonal skills are essential
  • Customer service oriented
  • Working knowledge of Nuclear Codes & Standards as they relate to procurement activities, These may include but not be limited to: ASME Section III, ASME NCA-4000, ASME NQA-1, CSA N285.0, & CSA N286-05, and CSA Z299 Series requirements
  • Basic knowledge of other material or component codes and standards would be an asset. These may include but not be limited to: ASME Section II, ASTM, & CSA.
  • Excellent planning, decision making, negotiation and time management skills are essential
  • Knowledge of SAP would be an asset
  • Must be willing to travel as necessary for various work locations (field and office).
  • Comfortable working in areas with loud noises, and mobile equipment.
  • Requirement to wear PPE (Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Steel Toe Boots and Vest) when required.
