Position Overview

Faster.Smarter.Safer. This is how Aecon Utilities is committed to delivering projects. Aecon Utilities is ready to become Canadas #1 utility construction provider and were looking for a Team Lead, CAD/GIS to help us get there!

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, the CAD/GIS Team Lead will be responsible for supervising all facets of overhead and underground telecommunication design drafting for our existing and perspective Utility clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead overhead and underground telecommunication CAD and GIS team
  • Maintain relationship with Clients, subcontractors and internal construction forces
  • Oversee Staff working CAD drafting, including direct supervision of staff.
  • Draw and quality control drawings in Network x / GCOMM environment
  • Implements quality control procedures to ensure integrity of documents, electronic Images, and/or records.
  • Identifies improvements in processes, systems, technology, and procedures when necessary.
  • Review weekly productivities, and implement corrective actions as required
  • Review invoicing to ensure accuracy, and timeliness
  • Attend to customer concerns regarding delivery, quality, or other issues
  • Monitor and document project changes, prepare change orders where required.
  • Prepare estimates associated with engineering scope of work.
  • Forecast project workload and ensure proper staffing is in place
  • Accountable for project deliverables and financial performance.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through high quality project delivery
  • Ensure AUE meets all customer stated KPIs, (permit turn around, % conf. grant)
  • Train and mentor staff on how to resolve issues, provide direction as to contacts and approaches
  • Ensure preparation and submission of project documents, as specified by contract, to the client.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to client, as required.
  • Chair project meetings and ensure preparation and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring of the Companys Safety Policy at the project location.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff.

Required Knowledge and Experience.

  • Prior experience in a similar role within the utility engineering/construction industry
  • Experience in Telecommunication and/or Electrical Distribution design for a minimum of two years
  • Knowledge of Telecommunications infrastructure and plan reading
  • Advanced computer skills with a variety of software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, MS Access
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities and work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated effective decision-making skills while under limited supervision
  • Understanding of current best-practice project management techniques
  • Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proven people and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in doing RFPs, RFIs, along with full execution of lump sum bidding requirements
