Description
Wetaskiwin has an exciting leadership opportunity as an Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) for the Operating Room and Day Surgery departments. Wetaskiwin is a busy OR with three theaters performing a variety of general, gynecological, and ophthalmologic surgeries in addition to the well-established endoscopy program. We are excited to be working on expanding our programs in alignment with the Alberta Surgical Initiative and are looking for a dedicated Assistant Head Nurse to join our team. As AHN, you will report to the Operating Room department Manager and will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of the multidisciplinary team in the operating room, day surgery and endoscopy departments. You will provide perioperative patient care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). You will demonstrate full-scope competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in both the scrub and circulating roles as an integral part of the surgical team. This place of work is in a community designated for Canada Student Loan forgiveness. You may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness if you meet other eligibility requirements.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Previous charge nurse experience required. Minimum of 5 years of peri-operative nursing experience required (recent within the last 18 months). Demonstrated skills in independent problem solving, is self-motivated and highly reliable. Has the ability to maintain standards and takes initiative to improve patient care. Incumbent must possess leadership and decision-making ability and be able to exercise sound judgment.
CNA Perioperative certification. Perioperative course.
