Description
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity to join the South Zone Clinical Engineering team. The Biomedical Equipment Technologist I position is based at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, supporting the regional hospital and rural health centers. Biomedical Equipment Technologist I is responsible for the management of technology including technical support of medical equipment and clinical systems. The technologist requires knowledge of clinical practices, procedures and equipment types; and must be well versed in details of anatomy and physiology. The technologist working independently or as part of a team, is responsible for performing assurance testing and support of complex medical devices, ensuring compliance with CSA, manufacturers and accreditation specifications and standards. Responsibilities also include prioritization, scheduling and managing assigned workload, and actively participating in ongoing professional & personal development and quality improvement programs.
As a Biomedical Equipment Technologist I, you will perform service and support for medical equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
Completion of a two year diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from an accredited Institute of Technology. Active or eligible for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).
Demonstrate technical skills and mechanical aptitude. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. A strong background in medical equipment technology and service. Healthcare IT knowledge such as networking, application interfaces, antivirus/encryption, and experience with computerized maintenance management software and medical diagnostic software. Knowledge of Medical device industry regulations and standards. Exhibit a working knowledge of medical terminology and physiology. Integrate industry best practices in daily routine work. Ability to travel is required, both internally in Alberta as well as out-of-province or out-of-country travel required for training purposes. Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and valid passport and/or relevant documentation allowing entry into the USA.
Completion of specific manufacturer's technical service training on specialized medical equipment and relevant experience. Disciplined in organizing and planning the work as per set objectives and established priorities. Critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to communicate effectively and good interpersonal skills. Positive attitude and a good performance record.
