Description
This Diagnostic General Sonographer will perform general examinations in the busy and dynamic Diagnostic Imaging Department at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Close collaboration with physicians, technical staff, nursing, patients, supervisor and management is required. Additional shifts are available for pick up.
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.
Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
High quality technical skills and knowledge required. The successful candidate must have excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be capable of maintaining a positive, cooperative and flexible attitude. Ability to display tact, courtesy, and empathy when interacting with patients and families. Must work well both independently and within a team in a wide variety of clinical and educational situations. Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and make decisions required. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Experience working in a hospital setting is preferred. Completion of certification in both cardiac and general preferred; CRGS and CRCS or equivalent. Preceptor experience with ultrasound students is an asset. Up-to-date AHS Annual Continuing Education preferred. Working knowledge of computer applications Connect Care and IMPAX preferred; familiarity with ISCV is an asset.
