The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a warm and vibrant workplace with team members, youth, families, staff and physicians partnering together to provide service to the children and families in inpatient units and ambulatory clinics. Reporting to the Unit Manger and the coordinator for the Neurophysiology Lab, the EEG Technologist I is responsible for performing standard neurophysiology tests on children, including routine EEG. The technologist works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health care team, utilizing the principles of family centered care to meet the diagnostic needs of this patient population. As the successful candidate, you will exhibit excellent communication skills and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills. You will demonstrate initiative, adaptability and flexibility to meet varying clinical and operational needs. Participation on program/clinic committees is expected as needed. You will receive guidance, mentoring & leadership appropriate to your level of experience from senior staff members. As part of the Neurophysiology team, you will have opportunity to participate in ongoing educational sessions related to your discipline and be supported in developing skills in other areas of the technology field. Physical abilities: prolonged sitting/standing, pushing/pulling of equipment, assisting with patient transfers, sustained awkward postures involved in day-to-day work activities. The successful candidate will be required to work days and evenings & weekends on-call as per scheduled rotation. As an Electroneurophysiology (EEG) Technologist, you will perform appropriate tests on all age groups, utilizing a variety of electrode application methods and explain testing procedures to clients/patients and family. You will observe physical changes in the patient during testing, prepare results and/or interprets findings for/with physician. You will prepare, update and maintain patient records. You will ensure proper operation of equipment by performing maintenance, calibration, cleaning and detect any equipment malfunction, make minor repairs or report the need for major repairs to the appropriate person. You will inform the physician of urgent examination results and resolve unusual or complex cases or refers concerns to the appropriate individual(s).

Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT).

Graduation from a formal Electrophysiology Program or successful completion of a recognized in house training program. Qualified to complete or completion of Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologists examination. Physical abilities: prolonged sitting/standing, pushing/pulling of equipment, assisting with patient transfers, sustained awkward postures involved in day to day work activities. Current BLS.
