The town is located in beautiful Peace Country, 1.75hrs from Slave Lake, 2 hours from Grande Prairie, just under an hour from Peace River and 4.5hrs North from Edmonton. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. As an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation, assessing emergency scenes and patients, providing simple treatments and completing required documentation including patient care reports. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for an EMR is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for an EMR are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.
Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must be able to obtain a valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. Proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Successful applicants will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search, from a law enforcement agency, prior to their first day of work (CRC/VSS must be dated no more than 90 days prior to the date on the written offer letter and prior to the start date). Applicants are encouraged to seek a CRC/VSS as early on as possible during the selection process to avoid delays in their onboarding.
Preference is given to those with previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset and will be considered during the selection process. Willing to orientate entry level candidates with an interest in North Zone.
