If you take pride in maintaining a clean environment and are comfortable working with minimal supervision in a busy and fast-paced environment, join our team to work at Alberta Children’s Hospital. We will provide all necessary training to safely clean and disinfect in our hospitals and healthcare facilities. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, efficient individual for the position of Environmental Services I (cleaner/housekeeper) who has a strong work ethic and a high respect for safety. Hospitals and healthcare facilities that are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and maintained are vital for our patients’ healing. Because of Environmental Services, staff, patients, family members, volunteers, and visitors feel confident that they are in a safe, healthy, clean environment. Environmental services work is done in areas where patients, staff and visitors are present and involves frequent interactions with patients, clients and staff. Environmental I position is responsible for routine and isolation cleaning protocols, disinfecting of patient rooms, clinical spaces, common areas and assigned medical equipment, washes walls, changing privacy cubicle curtains utilizing a ladder/step stool, floor care (operate scrubbers, buffers/burnishers), and removing waste (e.g. garbage, shredding, biomedical) to designated holding areas. Alberta Children's Hospital is the largest public hospital for sick children in the prairie provinces and is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This facility provides a range of healthcare services for children up to 18 years old including a 24/7 emergency department.

As an Environmental I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with the cleaning and disinfecting of clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping and vacuuming, restocking supplies in bathroom facilities and, stripping linen and remaking beds. This includes replenishing cleaning supplies and linens and identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of a computer including Microsoft Office. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 22 lbs of force.

To enable applicants to perform their duties safely, they must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and oral directions in English. Ability to walk, climb ladder/step stool, squat, bend, reach in all directions (overhead work required), push/pull. Basic knowledge and operation of a computer and a smartphone. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time (e.g. Surgical and N95 Respiratory Masks, Eye Protection, Gloves, Gowns, etc.). Must be dependable and able to work with minimal supervision. All new employees will be required to attend a 5-day Environmental Services Orientation.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Work-related experience, cleaning, knowledge of hospital cleaning procedures and equipment preferred. Customer service is preferred. Environmental Services leadership experience such as working leader, shift lead, training or equivalent preferred.
