Working with adolescents experiencing acute mental health needs on a 10-bed adolescent psychiatric unit. The family counselor works within the multi-disciplinary team providing individual, family, and case management support for youth admitted to the unit. Family counselors must be skilled in various therapies for the youth and with families and be organized and efficient to meet the fast-paced demands of an inpatient unit. Family counselors provide the case-management connection in coordinating discharge and follow up care, individualized care-plan development and also support and facilitate groups. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Completion of master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with College of Alberta Social Workers, Collage of Alberta Psychologist or CARNA. Several (3-5) years, clinical experience, with supervision, as family counselor required. Able to function as a Family Therapist while collaborating with other team members of the multidisciplinary team. Able to manage a varied caseload. Able to demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Able to demonstrate initiative and recognize limitations. Able to demonstrate skills in interpersonal relationships. Able to handle crisis and stressful situations in a calm facilitative manner. Adolescent experience required. Group therapy/facilitation experience required. MSW must be able to perform restricted psychosocial interventions or applied with College for same.

Completion of the Brain Story Certificate (attachments) preferred. Training in trauma informed care is preferred. Non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI) training. Successful completion of an accredited certificate program with full membership in AAMFT preferred.
