Description
The Health Care Aide provides personal care and support to clients in a community setting. Work is assigned according to an established plan of care, in collaboration with the client, family and members of the interdisciplinary team. The Health Care Aide is supervised by a regulated health professional and may perform assigned Restricted Activities under specific circumstances. Documentation of pertinent information and care provision is required, as is participation in relevant in-service education.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate from an Accredited College/Program is required. Equivalent experience/education will be considered. This is a Regularized Relief Position so requires flexibility to the provided rotation to allow for the expected coverage for pre-booked Vacation and Education relief, etc. The ability to apply Health and Safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, to work effectively and cooperatively with others and to set priorities by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. Driver's Abstract to be completed by AHS with no GDL restrictions and vehicle for travel is required. Ability to meet physical demands of the job. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references. New employees must provide a criminal records check (at their own expense) in compliance with the Protection for Persons in Care Act. Smoking restrictions are in effect. Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals is desirable. Medication Assistance training is preferred. Familiarity with PC, Internet and Microsoft applications is an asset.
