Description
The Rising Sun Long Term Care Centre (LTC) is home to 30 Elderly Residents. Nestled 58kms southwest of Calgary in beautiful Diamond Valley, Alberta. The vibrant Oilfields General Hospital offers an excellent rural care giver opportunity in a unique and diverse Alberta Health Services care facility. The Health Care Aide (HCA) in LTC works in a Resident Family Centered Care environment that focuses on meeting the comprehensive and complex care needs of the Residents and their families in a home like setting. The HCA will work diligently to enhance the Residents activities of daily living by providing compassionate Resident centered care. You may be eligible for the Rural Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program if you meet other eligibility requirements.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Part of the enrolment process includes the student submitting a copy of their (unofficial) transcript. The HCA Directory is waiving the enrolment fee for these nursing student applicants. Nursing students eligible for employment as an HCA in Alberta must meet the following criteria: Be a Practical Nursing (PN) student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed one year of the program; or Be a Baccalaureate Nursing (BN or BScN) student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed two full years of the program; or Be a Psychiatric Nursing student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed two full years of the program; and the nursing student has completed a continuing care or medical unit clinical placement; The nursing student has some knowledge and experience with medication assistance. Once you have your certificate from the directory, create an ePeople profile for AHS and upload your criminal record check and directory information. The HCA requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs.
Long Term Care Nursing Experience. 1-2 years Caregiver Experience in an Adult Clinical Care Setting. Completion of Supportive Pathways or equivalent dementia care education or experience. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as member of a care team. Demonstrated Palliative Care experience.
