The Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) is unique in offering a combined 12 bed Intensive Care Unit & 5 bed Coronary Care Unit. With a primary focus on critically ill medical & surgical patients who require a high degree of specialized nursing and medical care, common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, pneumonia, complications related to asthma, cardiac arrest, sepsis, renal & liver failure, complications of diabetes (DKA), complications of pregnancy, shock, chest pain, MI, CHF & dysrhythmias. The ICU / CCU Health Care Aid is a pivotal member of the interprofessional team. The HCA is responsible for initiating and supporting a collaborative care model in both the ICU and CCU clinical areas. Under the direction and supervision of the ICU/CCU Nurse Clinician and RNs, the HCA will be responsible for providing direct patient care within their defined scope, including comfort care rounds and assisting with mobilization. The HCA will be responsible for supporting patient transports. The ICU/CCU HCA is part of the site code response team and will be responsible for attending to and supporting CPR during resuscitations. The HCA will work collaboratively with other disciplines in the critical care area to support unit based cleaning, stocking and organization. As the HCA you will maintain professional practice including but not limited to mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, participation in quality improvement initiatives, promotion of a positive supportive work environment, & demonstration of professional accountability. In addition, you will demonstrate excellence in patient & family centered care, patient advocacy; a collaborative team-based approach; conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem-solving & decision-making skills; & a commitment to fostering an environment of respect, promoting the values of AHS.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide course or equivalent is required. Current BCLS-HCP, It’s your Move Certification, and N95 Fit test. Current 2 years’ experience in acute medical/surgical unit. Strong interpersonal communication skills essential. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and autonomously within a multidisciplinary team and receive direction from RN’s. Ability to contribute as a team member, learn within a dynamic environment and adapt/cope with change. Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.

Recent experience, within the last 2 years, in Critical Care or Emergency department.
