Description
Reporting to the Associate Manager - Clinical Support and Emerging Issues in the CDC Notifiable Disease and Outbreak program, the Clinical Instructor/Educator functions as the key provincial educational support and quality assurance resource for the Communicable Disease/Outbreak Management (CDOM) application, supporting CDC, Safe Healthy Environments and Sexually Transmitted Infections. They are responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of current training modules and resources for the CDOM system. They have expert knowledge and experience working with the CDOM application, clinical practice standards and operational processes in notifiable and non-notifiable diseases and a strong understanding of how the provincial Public Health system supports client management, clinical practice, and public health surveillance. Translating CDOM change requests from business to the IT development team is a key role of this position, requiring a solid understanding of the inner workings of the application. They identify learning needs and training gaps across programs and develop plans to address these gaps. They are responsible for ensuring resources are current and dynamic to support changes in standards of practice. They co-lead and participate in joint AH/AHS meetings and contribute to decision making in quality assurance activities. They must understand the Alberta Public Health Act and Communicable Disease Regulations and maintain clinical expertise in all current and emerging communicable diseases. They collaborate with management as well as internal and external partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice, ensuring the CDOM application is meeting business needs. They will also participate in the development and integration of workflows and data quality activities between CDOM and Connect Care.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum 3 years in the provincial communicable disease program as an RN or AHN in either the provincial CDC STI or routine notifiable disease operations programs with consistent use of the CDOM system throughout. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. Extensive knowledge in communicable disease assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Extensive knowledge of the Alberta Public Health Act and Communicable Disease Regulations. Demonstrated experience in development of clinical policies, protocols, and educational resources. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical capabilities. Demonstrated leadership skills. Reliable internet access and ability to maintain a confidential workspace. Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications including CDC databases and Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams), and Connect Care. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and well organized with good time management skills.
Masters Degree in Nursing or related field. Demonstrated experience using Adobe Captivate and SnagIt.
