The Adult Acute Inpatient Addiction & Mental Health Unit at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is a dynamic and fast paced adult acute mental health unit dedicated to best practice patient and family centered care. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the Edmonton zone Addiction & Mental Health program’s Principles of Care and AHS values. As a member of the collaborative, interdisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care and practices to full scope as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) via Heart & Stroke Foundation Basic computer skills. Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintain collaboration with team members. Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Demonstrated accountability, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise, within initiative and self-directedness. Minimum 2 years of experience in an adult acute inpatient practice setting. Working knowledge of concurrent disorders, risk assessments, safety plans, psychotropic medications and mental status assessments.

Experience working within the CoACT framework an asset. Experience working with persons with significant mental illness and/or addictions an asset and preferred.
