3A is a 30-bed Surgical unit specializing in the care of acute general surgery patients. On 3A, you will be working in a fast paced, ever changing surgical environment. Our unit functions in a team environment using the Collaborative Care model. The unit provides an environment with opportunity for growth and experience. We're looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our unit that is focused on providing safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and procedures and CLPNA standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN is responsible to collaborate as a member of the health care team with the patient and family to deliver consistent quality care to meet the needs of the patient. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Must be current with CLPNA licensing, CLPNA restricted activities and advanced practice modules, as well as AHS and unit specific modules and competencies (such as CAD pumps, vac dressing changes and wound management, drains - jackson pratt/hemovac, ostomies, foley catheters, CBI's. 2-3 years of recent surgical experience or preceptored on a surgical unit. Must be able to adapt to fluctuating workloads, self-directed, organized, able to prioritize and have excellent communication skills (both for patient teaching and working as part of a team. Demonstrates effective critical thinking skills, must be respectful, tactful and courteous in behavior. Applicants must be physically able to perform all duties listed in the Surgical Nurse Job Description and Hazard Assessment Control Worksheet (HIAC) including "working conditions". Extended periods of sitting and standing are required. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, good listening skills and ability to accurately and effectively communicate verbally, on the computer and in writing.

2-3 years of recent medical/surgical experience or recent preceptorship on a surgical unit preferred. Knowledge in standards of practice as it relates to the gastroenterology environment an asset.
