This Maintenance III position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) site. The incumbent will assist in maintaining 8 facilities, totaling more than 650,000 m2 of clinical and mechanical space: Acute Care, Laboratory, Research, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial equipment. As a Maintenance Worker III, you will perform a variety of maintenance and repair work, including but not limited to repairs electronic components on patient and hospital equipment (e.g. beds). Monitors and troubleshoots operation of mechanical systems and performs appropriate repair maintenance on boilers, HVAC, medical air and vacuum systems and pure water systems. Performs preventative maintenance on mechanical systems, Assists tradespeople or other maintenance staff with various maintenance, installation or repair projects. May requisition supplies and/or equipment and/or other administrative duties, maintain the Helipad. Coordinates, assigns, monitors and checks the work of Maintenance Workers I’s and II’s. Minor repairs, user-driven demand work orders and system-driven preventive maintenance work orders, interstitial cleaning, Telelift cleaning, filter replacement, Lighting replacement, integral part of the 5S team, organizing, cleaning, moving equipment, maintaining the surplus items and housekeeping of mechanical areas, assisting Tradespeople, other Maintenance Workers and collaborating with Clinical staff and other work as assigned by FME Management. Must be reliable, cooperative, and capable of working independently. Required to work in all areas of the hospital facility. The Maintenance III’s responsibilities is to uphold the integrity of all systems quality to assure the hospital occupants are in a comfortable and safe environment as per FME and Site requirements.

As a Maintenance Worker III, you may perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work on patient and hospital equipment and complex mechanical systems to ensure safety and efficient operation of the building systems and equipment. You may utilize your maintenance skills and experience in the performance of preventative and demand maintenance within the exterior and interior of the building. Your duties may include troubleshooting and repairing electronic components on patient and hospital equipment; monitoring, troubleshooting and performing repairs on boilers, HVAC, medical air and vacuum systems and pure water systems. In addition, you may be required to coordinate and assign work to other Maintenance Worker staff in order to meet operational requirements.

Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or 1 year specialized/technical training in a related field OR 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate as per ABSA kW rating guidelines or AHS standards where boiler support is necessary. Possession of a valid driver's licence.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in an active hospital with FME. Incumbent must be mechanically inclined, able to use general hand tools and equipment related to maintenance repair. Required to have no physical limitations concerning sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, working on ladder with arms above shoulder height for long periods and be physically able to carry out the duties of the position (i.e. climb ladders, work in awkward positions, lift or move heavy material or equipment, work in hot or dirty environments). Required basic computer skills in addition to good verbal and written communication skills. Required to work on and operate elevated platforms, maintain inventory and requisition supplies. Required to assist with replacing filters, assist with lighting, assist with cleaning Telelift track, assist with Fire Alarm testing maintenance and assist with 5S cleaning and organizing throughout the site, and other duties as assigned by FME Management. Must be reliable, cooperative, open to constant change and capable of working independently. Required to work in all areas of the hospital facility.

Trade experience is an asset. Previous work experience is a definite asset. Minimum Grade 12 high school diploma. Demonstrated ability to be flexible in responding to changing demands and workloads. Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
