Are you passionate about caring for children needing specialized surgery and care? Do you have experience in pediatric or cardiology clinical practice? Alberta Health Services (AHS) offers an exciting opportunity to join the Stollery Children’s Hospital as a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Cardiology with a Heart Transplant, based in Edmonton, Alberta. The Stollery is a leading center for pediatric cardiac surgery and organ transplantation, providing top care to children in Western Canada. The Pediatric Heart Transplant program provides specialized care for children who require the following clinical management: Assessment and care pre and post heart transplantation. Cardiac complications and other medical Conditions on their transplant journey. Congenital cardiac defects that require ongoing surgical repair and medical management with consideration for transplantation. Recent heart transplant surgery, or therapies which bridge to transplant including ventricular assist devices (VAD) Interventional and electrophysiological cardiac catheterization procedures before and after transplant. The Nurse Practitioner works independently within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, residents, and fellows to contribute to the medical plan of care. They perform diagnosis, management, intervention, referral, and evaluation across the continuum of services.The NP also supports family-centered care, addressing psychosocial aspects of long-term illness and preparing patients for the transition to adulthood. They communicate with centers in the Western Canadian Children's Heart Network that provide local care for transplanted children.The NP will contribute to the development of policies and procedures, support education, and have opportunities to engage in clinical research and program development to enhance best practices and family-centered care.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Master of Science in Nursing Degree supplemented by completion of a recognized Nurse Practitioner Program in the Child Health stream. The NP is responsible for ensuring that his/her registration is current, valid and entered on the NP Roster of the CRNA under the Health Professions Act. A minimum of 3 years of full time (or equivalent number of hours) clinical Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiology or Transplant experience as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse. Computer competence (including demonstrated proficiency with Connect care, MS Office tools).

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Pediatric Cardiology Registered Nurse experience. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner recent graduates from an accredited program will be considered.
