Physiotherapist I

As part of Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), the Rehabilitation Oncology (RO) team- which includes Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Therapy Assistants and Physiatry- is growing! Our program has moved to the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (ACCC) and we are looking for skilled and compassionate Physiotherapists to join our team in a casual role supporting our inpatient units. Why Choose CCA? Under general supervision of the Manager, the Physiotherapist (PT) will triage and screen referrals, develop, implement and evaluate personalized rehabilitation plans to help patients manage symptoms/ side effects of cancer treatment. The PT will participate in case consultation, rounds and discharge planning, creating well-supported transitions across the continuum of care. The PT is a mentor to staff and students as we offer placements and job shadow experiences. The PT will participate in cross-coverage across inpatient units. Inpatient unit services include Medical Oncology/ Radiation Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Hematology. The ideal candidate for this position is available to work at least 1-2 shifts per week (Monday to Friday, no weekends) between the hours of 0800-1630 to support orientation, staff education and caseload coverage.

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Minimum 1 year of working experience in an adult inpatient rehabilitation area. Effective interpersonal communication: Ability to connect with patients, families, and healthcare teams in various modes of communication (verbal, written, Zoom, email). Experience providing physiotherapy care in an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated effective time management and organization skills. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Word). Experience working with Therapy Assistants.

Minimum 3 years of experience working in an urban adult inpatient setting. Experience in any of the following: neurorehabilitation, palliative and/ or end of life care and wound care. AADL authorizer for mobility aids. Knowledge of discharge planning resources in Calgary Zone. Completed Connect Care training including Allied Health Therapies. Demonstrated understanding of the physical and emotional needs of patients with cancer.
