The Program Manager, Learning & Development EMS is a key leadership role in EMS and reports directly to the Director of Learning & Development (L&D) Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of the area in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. EMS L&D is part of the EMS Clinical Compliance, Training and Standards (CCTS) division. This position is accountable for overseeing the planning, coordination, implementation, evaluation and delivery of zone education and EMS province-wide comprehensive initiatives and projects. The initiatives and projects are related to, education, quality management and improvement and accreditation. The primary objectives of this position are to establish a foundation for learning and development that will; support a focus of matching learning to patient needs, establish evidence-based decision making and effect required change in the organization. The EMS L&D Manager provides leadership to a highly skilled and specialized professional staff. The candidate must have a good understanding of how the strategic planning of CCTS works with and impacts EMS Clinical Operations, Emergency Communications and other areas of EMS and AHS. The EMS L&D Manager is required to analyze complex information and identify key issues. This position is required to be directly involved with the delivery of clinical education in the Central Zone. Each zone manager holds provincial portfolios in various areas (eg. Simulation, Medical Control Guidelines, E-Learning, Recruit Orientation).

The Manager of EMS Learning and Development Central zone reports directly to the EMS Director of Learning & Development. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating local, zone and provincial initiatives and projects in the areas of Clinical training, simulation, clinical support, and other initiatives supporting the EMS Learning & Development Provincial department. The successful candidate will be able to: Provide direction and leadership for a variety of zone and provincial teams whose work impacts the delivery of clinical training. Lead projects that have direct impact to EMS training and patient care. Maintain clinical exposure by participating in regular ride-alongs. Deliver and develop training such as simulation, clinical support, Medical Control Protocol skills training, and other training as required. Provide supervision to zone and provincial clinical educators based on direct reporting and portfolio reporting. Travel as required. Deliver training to staff in a classroom and simulation setting. Provide feedback to staff in a professional manner. Collaborate with other zone Managers with various projects.

Registered with the Alberta College of Paramedic - Advanced Care Paramedic level (relevant field may be considered). Experience in adult education. Clinical experience in EMS or related field. Progressive leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Must have excellent project management skills with the ability to advance positive change for the betterment of patient and/or staff quality.

As required.

Diploma, Degree or Masters education in a related field. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Instructor status in ACLS, PALS, ITLS, NRP and BCLS-HCP is an asset. Project Management experience and or education.
