AHS has always focused on providing a safe and secure environment for all staff, patients, and families. There are 128 AHS facilities providing clinical care services that do not have full time Protective Services (PS) resources. The RMUs will provide a 2-hour patrol area for the majority of rural areas ensuring resources are available to respond, to prevent violence, de-escalate emotions and work with local law enforcement to mitigate risks. The successful candidate will recognize the importance of effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with patients, staff and families. As an RMU Officer you will exercise sound judgment while upholding AHS values and collaborate effectively with Police, municipal departments, provincial agencies, clinical partners, and community organizations on a continual basis.

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Post secondary related to the working field. Previous experience working as a Peace Officer or Police Officer in the Province of Alberta.
