The Public Health Inspector II for the Edmonton zone Safe Food program maintains an assigned Food inspection district within Edmonton zone as well as specializing in Special events. The PHI II is sought out for information, advice, and direction on all aspects of special events in the zone such as temporary food vendors, festivals, and related items identified in the Food Regulation pursuant to the Public Health Act. The Specialist is a subject matter expert and provides recommendations and assists the program Coordinator and Manager with event evaluation review, prioritization, scheduling, and logistics. In addition, the specialist will interact and liase with external partners including municipal, non-profit, organizing committees and other groups to facilitate education and compliance with Public Health requirements. The PHI II works alongside a dedicated team of collaborative professionals with common goals and objectives and provide coverages during absences. The PHI II may be required to provide coverage for the Program Coordinator in their absence and perform other related job functions as needed.

As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of public health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental public health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.

Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).

Demonstrated experience with organizing public health staff and on-site operations for large, complex and multi day special events. Candidate should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to remain calm in challenging inspection environments involving larger volumes of people, variable weather conditions, and volunteer food handlers.
