Reporting to the Manager and under the supervision of a Recreation Therapist II, the Recreation Therapist I provides comprehensive services for clients within Recovery Alberta. The therapist ensures the level of therapeutic recreation practice in their clinical area is evidence based, patient and family centered and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. The therapist completes assessment, treatment, education and management of the clients and provides clinical support and consultation to the other teams. Working in a variety of both community and Inpatient settings, this position requires collaboration and communication with the health care team, confidentiality and a high level of professionalism. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Ability to develop and maintain solid working relationships across a variety of disciplines and programs. Ability to function very independently with excellent time management skills. Ability to be flexible, adaptable and able to cope with a rapidly changing environment. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Experience providing clinical services to individuals and groups.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing evidence-based assessment, treatment and interventions in mental health, addictions in a community setting. Certifications: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training. Safe Food Handling Certificate. Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) or equivalency. First Aid.
