Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) is Calgary’s second largest tertiary care site. Located in the city’s Southwest, it provides acute, outpatient, critical care, surgical, medical, neonatal intensive care, mental health, seniors, women’s and emergency health services. The facility is home to two units dedicated to the Acute Geriatric Units (AGU) for the Calgary Zone. Each year, RGH sees approximately 47,000 Medical Outpatients. Medical Ambulatory Clinics is currently recruiting for a temporary Respiratory Therapist II for our Pulmonary Diagnostics Laboratory. This clinic provides Pulmonary Function testing including Methacholine Challenge Testing, Induced Sputum Analysis for Airway Inflammation, Cardiopulmonary Stress Tests, Exercise Induced Bronchoconstriction, Eucapneic Voluntary Hyperventilation Studies, Shunt Estimates, Hypoxia Altitude Simulation Testing, Arterial Blood Gases and Diagnostic Bronchoscopy procedures, to a complex adult patient population. This position reports to the Unit Manager of Ambulatory Clinics. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, with a history of working with physicians in a team setting, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and education to meet the needs of the patients and families accessing clinic services.

As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Graduate of accredited RT Program. Minimum 2 years’ experience in the last 4 years with pulmonary function testing. Minimum of 2 years previous acute care experience. Demonstrated expertise in adult teaching and learning. Experience within the last 2 years supporting bronchoscopy procedures with strong airway management skills. Experience within the last 2 years supporting Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing including Exercise Induced Bronchoconstriction, Eucapneic Voluntary Hyperventilation Studies, Shunt Estimates, Hypoxia Altitude Simulation Testing. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and independence of respiratory therapy in a highly functioning team environment. Mastery in comprehensive pulmonary function testing and decision-making. Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment; constant walking and standing, patient transfers, lifting, maneuvering patients and heavy equipment in tight spaces, and bending are necessary. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient computer skills & Connect Care/Epic experience required. Strong communication skills with the ability to connect with patients and their families. Demonstrated history of collaborative practice and ability to build productive professional relationships with team members and other health care professionals. Demonstrated ability to take direction and feedback and incorporate into professional practice. BLS HCP certification.

Completion of Certified Respiratory Educator credential. Experience performing TEEs. Connect Care experience.
