Description
The Stollery Children’s Hospital Respiratory Therapy program operates across multiple sites, supporting pediatric and neonatal patients in ambulatory, acute, and critical care settings at UAH, RAH, and SCH. This multi-site Respiratory Therapy Technical Lead (RTTL) position requires travel to all Stollery sites. The RTTL provides expertise in respiratory equipment testing, management, and cost-effective supply allocation. Acting as a key resource, the RTTL ensures consistency, quality, and compliance with professional standards, legislation, and Point of Care Testing laboratory requirements. This role supports staff, leadership, and programs by addressing equipment concerns and collaborating with the RT manager, educators, clinical leads, and Professional Practice Lead (PPL) to assess and implement new technology. The RTTL leads equipment-related quality improvement initiatives and fosters collaboration to meet evolving needs. Responsibilities include evaluating and translating new technology into practice while maintaining high standards in respiratory care. The position involves extended periods of sitting, standing, computer work, occasional heavy lifting, and exposure to hazardous materials or medical gases.
As a Respiratory Therapist III - Clinical Practice Lead, you will be responsible for mentoring, promoting standards of practice, responding to clinical questions, and coordinating ongoing skill and student development within your team. You will collaborate with managers and supervisors in the provision and access to internal and external continuing education and professional development programs including certifications and upgrades.
Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy. Successful completion of CBRC exam. Current BLS certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Greater than five (5) years' experience in a tertiary acute care teaching hospital. Current experience with a wide variety of Respiratory Therapy equipment and Point of Care blood gas maintenance and troubleshooting. Demonstrated interest in technical equipment aspects including testing and troubleshooting critical care equipment. An aptitude for troubleshooting and repair of equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of Respiratory therapy equipment, and ventilator waveforms. Demonstrated leadership in Respiratory Therapy. Evidence of leadership training or experience through academic or practical experiences. Basic computer skills are required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated clear pattern of personal and professional development. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and foster effective relationships. Demonstrated ability to assist in facilitating change within a complex health care environment.
Relevant service training for Respiratory Therapy equipment onsite. Previous experience in a maintenance environment. Neonatal/pediatric experience. Experience with Microsoft Office. Experience with Oracle, iProcurement, Markview and eManager. Experience with electronic charting systems including EPIC. Bachelor’s degree in Health sciences or Engineering. Previous experience in a formal respiratory therapy leadership role. Current CSRT membership.
