Description
The Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) is unique in offering a combined 12 bed Intensive Care Unit & 5 bed Coronary Care Unit. With a primary focus on critically ill medical & surgical patients who require a high degree of specialized nursing, medical care and equipment. We are seeking a Service Worker I (SW) to join our dynamic ICU/CCU team. As a key member of the interprofessional team, the Service Worker will work under the supervision of the leadership team, including Management, Clinical Nurse Educators (CNEs), and Nurse Clinicians/Charge Nurses, to support the operations of the ICU and CCU. As the SW, you will demonstrate professional accountability and maintain a commitment to fostering an environment that is inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work, promoting the values of AHS. The Service worker is pivotal to ensuring the cleanliness of the unit to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant organisms and high-risk viruses/bacteria to our complex and vulnerable patient population. Key Responsibilities: Routine tracking, monitoring, cleaning, transport and organization of medical equipment, ensuring items are returned to designated storage locations. Routine temperature tracking of medication fridges. Decluttering and cleaning high-touch surfaces and equipment to reduce the risk of infection and maintain a clean environment. Monitoring and notifying ICU administration of inventory levels, including cables, special-order supplies, and any damaged equipment needing replacement. Collaborating with other disciplines to clean and stock areas such as desks, medication rooms, patient rooms, supply carts, and isolation carts.
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Previous 2 years’ experience in an Acute Care medical/surgical environment. Current Move safe. WHMIS training. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow specific procedures for cleaning and equipment management. Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices, particularly in relation to high-risk patient populations. Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously within a multidisciplinary team and take direction when needed. Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills. Proficient in the use of cleaning equipment and supplies. Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with shifting priorities. Must be able to read, write and speak English proficiently.
Has recent experience working in acute care within Alberta Health Services and is familiar with various products and protocols.
