Description
Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs activities related to patient care in the Operating Room, to ensure the smooth running of the Unit. These activities include but are not limited to assisting with positioning patients, getting equipment required to run cases in the OR, assisting within prepping. Strong attention to detail an asset as the Operative Room has a strict policy around sterile technique. Positioning and transfer of patients: Assists the surgical team (surgeon, anesthetist, OR nurse) to transfer and position patients on the OR table and/or patient bed as required for surgical procedure. Prepares theatre and equipment prior to surgery: Delivers and sets up all equipment, positioning devices and accessory supplies required for each surgical procedure. Responds to ad hoc requests for needed/unanticipated equipment/supplies as required (including blood products/specimens/crash cart) for all booked and emergency procedure.
As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Current CPR/BCLS required. Demonstrated ability to lift and hold >25 kg. Demonstrated ability to move heavy equipment. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all disciplines.
Ability to collaborate with in the expectations of a highly complex and integrated team. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapidly moving and complex environment. Demonstrated communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Basic computer skills are an asset.
