Description
The Stollery Philip C. Etches Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PCE NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69 funded bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and is characterized by high acuity and high activity. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model and is the only NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) training center in Canada. The Program has a dedicated Resuscitation and Stabilization Team (RST) who respond to the high-risk case-room at the Lois Hole Hospital. The Program is involved in several quality improvement initiatives. As a dedicated nursing student, you play a crucial role as an essential member of our dynamic and collaborative healthcare team. If you are currently in your third year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and have a passion for critical care, we encourage you to consider applying. Eligibility is only open to students who are currently enrolled in an approved Baccalaureate Nursing program & entering their 4th year. This posting will be used to fill 2 vacancies.
The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centred care with the supervision of the RN or RPN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.
Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
Current enrollment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a Registered Nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of a RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved education program, or currently in the final year of an after-degree program. Meet all clinical requirements set by your Post-Secondary Institution.
Current experience in Emergency or ICU.
