Classification Specifications
DEFINITION
The primary role of the Speech Therapy Assistant (STA) is to provide support to the Speech-
Language Pathologist in coordinating and providing community-based services.
-Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions with adults and children.
- Participate in community events and activities (e.g. information booths, fairs, guest
speaker at community partner group).
- Work collaboratively with community partners.
- Demonstrate an interest and comfort level in working with both young children and
parents in group settings (activities may include talking, reading, singing, and telling
stories in front of other adults).
- Work independently utilizing effective time management skills with the ability to
prioritize work assignments based on the needs of the team.
- Work a flexible schedule (to better serve clients, working in the evening or weekends is
sometimes required).
- Attend professional learning as required.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, social media, etc.).
- Physical expectations:
-Travel to various communities within the school district.
-Prepare, set up, and clean up materials and equipment.
- Carry large or heavy materials and equipment (across parking lots, in buildings and
upstairs).
- Sit at the children’s level and able to get down on the floor.
Qualification:
-High school graduation plus an early childhood education certificate or rehabilitation program of over one year, or an equivalent combination of training and education.
- A valid class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of New Brunswick and own use of transportation are required.
