Job Summary

The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry manages these resources in a manner that embraces economic, environmental and social goals of government.

The Manager, Forest Inventory leads professional, scientific, technical staff in the development, collection and delivery of a coordinated program for the estimation, projection and monitoring of the provincial forest resources. This role ensures there are comprehensive, consistent and reliable statistical and analytical techniques, standards, quality assurance procedures, information and decision support tools for all inventory information and provides advice, information and reports regarding the provincial forest resource inventory for strategic and operational planning.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science Degree in Resource Management, Forestry, or a related field and at least five (5) years of recent (gained over the last seven (7) years) experience in natural resource management; or, an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience leading teams, facilitating diverse groups of partners and stakeholders, achieving resolution of issues, managing contracted services and planning and controlling expenditures.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent (gained over the last seven (7) years) experience in the use, collection and management of forest inventory data and a solid understanding of forest inventory methods, statistical and analytic tools, data storage and retrieval systems and the management of large data sets.
  • Experience developing strategic planning, budgeting and contract administration and project management.
  • Preference may be given to applicants that are a Registered Professional Forester (RPF), a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT), or are immediately eligible for registration as an RPF or RFT with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in one of the following offices of the Ministry of Forests: Victoria, Kamloops, Nanaimo or Prince George; other locations may be considered based on the operational requirements of the position.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This position is excluded from union membership.
