Job Summary

An excellent senior opportunity for a dedicated professional

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure operates and maintains a transportation network to keep people and goods moving, and to support B.C.’s economic growth and success. Engineering Services develops engineering and environmental solutions to support the provincial transportation system. Several distinct engineering sections provide expert advice to business and program areas across the ministry and allied organizations for the planning, design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of B.C.'s provincial transportation infrastructure.

The Senior Highway Design Engineer completes and/or supervises the delivery of professional highway design services.

Job Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers & Geoscientists BC as Professional Engineer. (P.Eng). Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as currently registered as a Professional Engineer in another Canadian Jurisdiction, and able to obtain registration in BC within 6 months of employment.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent as recognized by EGBC for P.Eng. registration.
  • At least 7 years’ directly related experience working in positions with direct responsibility for highway design, including progressively more responsible positions.

Directly related experience must include:

  • Experience managing concurrent projects, developing, and interpreting highway design project specifications and standards, and providing direction and leadership to project teams.
  • Experience directing and overseeing design projects, including but not limited to:
    • Engineer of Record on a range of projects
    • providing oversight on the procurement of consultants/sub-consultants in support of technical highway design,
    • setting terms of reference or preparing technical proposals,
    • preparing and reviewing contract special provision documents.

Preference may be given to:

  • Applicants with at least five (5) years of experience in hands-on highway project design, or procuring and managing design consultants, or a combination of both.
