Job Summary

Apply your expertise in program and policy analysis to support exceptional service delivery

The Indigenous Child Care Policy Senior Policy Analyst coordinates and leads the research, analysis, development and implementation of strategic policies and legislation for Child Care Policy - Indigenous team. The Indigenous Senior Policy Analyst develops policy initiatives by working collaboratively with a broad range of ministry staff, cross-ministry partners, Indigenous partners, and community partners; acts as a subject-matter expert on a range of Indigenous child care programs/services and issues; and assists with developing strategic direction and planning to support the long-term implementation of government’s vision for child care using a distinctions based approach. This position supports the work of the entire Child Care Policy team responsible for the development of policy supporting some of governments largest commitments including New Child Care Space creation, the $10 a Day ChildCareBC program and the implementation of the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement with the federal government by providing subject matter expertise and engaging with Indigenous partners. The Child Care Policy - Indigenous team ensures policy development aligns with government’s commitments to Indigenous peoples in BC and strives for equity and the removal of barriers within the child care system.

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, Law, Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience establishing and maintaining relationships with Indigenous partners. This can include things such as engaging with community partners with a distinctions-based approach to achieve mutual outcomes.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience leading aspects of policy or program initiatives either through the development of legislation, regulations and/or broad-scale policies or programs.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience providing recommendations and developing written materials for senior staff/executive. For example: briefing notes, summary reports.


Preference May Be Given to Applicants With:

  • Experience as a BC Public Service employee in the Child Care Division.
  • Self-identity as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
  • More years of experience in any of the requirements as noted above.

  • Travel within BC may be required.

Remote work is allowed. This position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
