The Board invites applications for the following position:

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE - YORUBA INSTRUCTOR

Location -To be determined

Term Position : November 2024 - May 2025 (3.0 hours weekly - Day of the week TBD - 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm)

Salary: $29.90/hour

Position Summary:

The International and Indigenous Language - Yoruba Instructor will develop carefully thought-out lesson plans, identify meaningful links between the objectives and content of each lesson/unit. Planned instruction must include a range of activities that will provide listening, reading, writing, musical and engaging learning opportunities for students. The Yoruba Instructor will create a supportive, welcoming and dynamic learning environment for students, while promoting positive student behavior. The Yoruba Instructor will be responsible to the Vice Principal of Continuing Education.

Qualifications:

Basic: Training in teaching the language of study (Yoruba);

Training in teaching languages (i.e., ESL, FSL)

Other: - Three (3) years successful teaching experience (elementary preferable)

- Strong ability to read, write and speak in both Yoruba and English languages;

- Familiarity with language teaching methodologies;

- Commitment to inclusive teaching practice;

- Knowledge of research based-instructional strategies;

- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;

- Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into teaching/learning activities;

- Knowledge and ability to effectively use BrightSpace/D2L;

- A demonstrated understanding of effective assessment practices (e.g. Growing Success); and

- Ability to work collaboratively and to be flexible.

- Primary and Junior Divisions; or

- Junior and Intermediate Divisions

Duties and Responsibilities:

The role of the International and Indigenous Language Elementary Instructor is to plan, deliver and coordinate a program that is optimal for language learning and that reflects current teaching practices in Ontario; ensure the safety and well-being of students; communicate about student process to administrators, other educators, parents and students; encourage parent involvement in student learning at home and at school.

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board offers a Christ-centered education to over 13,000 students from Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk counties, the City of Brantford, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
