The following position is available for expressions of interest: ADST Teacher - Junior School - Part Time (0.5 FTE) Starting 26 August 2024The Applied Design Skills and Technology (ADST) Teacher will work with students to develop inquiry, project-based learning, and design-thinking challenges and opportunities as well as the ethical and safe integration of technology into the instructional program and supporting professional development. This individual will create interdisciplinary learning experiences related to Science, Technology, Humanities, Fine Arts, and Math (STEAM) both in and out of the classroom. This teacher will work with students, colleagues, and community-based partners, to open up the futures-oriented world of STEAM possibilities to studentsThis is a teaching role within the Primary Years Program and may extend into related Educational Technology roles. It includes a technology support role outside of the classroom where the successful candidate will work with students and teachers to support and integrate technology applications within the school.This teacher will work closely with colleagues in the Junior school to design and deliver the ADST program and to determine needs and support capacity building in shifting pedagogies and the co-creation and curation of resources (community, digital, print).The successful candidate will possess:content, digital, and instructional expertise;the capacity to work as a colleague with instructional staff to support student learning and teacher practice;proven experience with developing instructional materials, conducting trainings/workshops, and organize in-person and virtual presentations to educate and disseminate information to appropriate recipients.PRIMARYDUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES &ACCOUNTABILITIESResponsible for teaching in the Junior SchoolWorking with with faculty and students to facilitate technology integrationProvide direct support to other teachers as they implement and integrate science, mathematics, the fine arts and technology in the curriculumUse Understanding by Design as a framework to teach for deeper understandingDifferentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual learnersGeneral IT troubleshooting and support for students and employees such as computer troubleshooting, managing Google Workspace for Education accounts and workflows, connecting to TV's, printers, WiFi, etc. in collaboration with the School's IT systems specialistOverseeing some of the AV needs around the school for class projects and school events in collaboration with the School's IT systems specialistOther duties as assigned by the Junior School Principal and/or other members of the Academic Leadership teamQUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / SKILLSBC Teacher Certification - CoQPossess a Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in educationExcellent knowledge of the BC Curriculum and latest trends in educational research and pedagogyExperience and a passion for student-centered, project and inquiry-based learning, and maker-space pedagogiesFamiliarity with maker education, design thinking, and fostering an entrepreneurial mindsetDemonstrated ability to integrate technology purposefully to transform learningExperience working with STEAM tools, e.g. SketchUP, Scratch, 3D Printers, Robotics etc.Demonstrated passion for innovation and creativity in educationComputing Science and/or programming experience is an assetMinimum of five years teaching experienceExperience with robotics is an assetOtherInnovative, and creative thinkerKnowledge of the current research on tech and design learningCollaborative and flexible, supportive and effective team-playerExemplary communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational and time-management skillsDemonstrated commitment to educating the whole studentCommitted to continuous professional growth and improvementAbility to initiate new ideas with energy and have fun while doing itExpectations include but are not limited to: Place student safety and well-being as the priority in all instancesInspire students to want to learn, promote growth mindsets and lifelong learningCultivate a learning environment that is student-centred, that recognizes each student (and family) as unique, and that promotes authentic and professional connections/relationshipsEmbrace high standards of professional conduct and professional excellence, pursue best and innovative practice and embrace lifelong learning and personal/ professional growthCommunicate and respond appropriately and genuinely with students, parents, and other community members, respecting diverse needs and perspectives (including one's own)Actively, and with a positive mindset, support and work alongside colleagues in one's individual and collective work, acknowledge that we are on a shared journey and that we are better together, trust and be trustworthyApproach problem-solving with flexibility and positivityHave funSalary Range : Brockton Faculty Salary GridExample - At 1.0 FTE For TQS Category 5 (Step 1) $67,024 to $104,047 (Step 10 ) per annumPlease submit a cover letter followed by a resume as one attachment (MS Word or PDF format) and quote the position of interest in the subject line of your email: hr@brocktonschool.com This position is open to both internal and external candidates.Brockton School holds inclusion to be one of our core values, and welcomes the benefits of a diversity of perspectives and experience.
