THE ROLE

The Community Recreation Coordinator plays an important role, providing quality leisure programs, services and facilities to our military members and their families.

You will have a diverse portfolio, providing programs from preschoolers to adults and seniors. Each day will be different as you coordinate the details of community fitness, sports, day-camps, and civic events. You will have a chance to expand your skills and share your passions as you mentor junior staff and volunteers all with the goal of improving the quality of life for our military.

We are looking for a dynamic, independent and motivated individual to join our team, helping us ensure recreation is all about fun!

Responsibilities:

Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the operations and delivery of Base/Wing/Unit (B/W/U) recreation programs, summer camps, and special events.

Provide administrative services and support to the Recreation Assembly, recreation clubs, overseeing the preparation and submission of minutes for activity groups.

Recruit, supervise, train, and manage a team of up to 30 employees, volunteer leaders and instructors.

Communicate information among B/W/U administration, activity groups, clubs, B/W/U population, and individual participants.

Liaise with Military Family Resource Centre personnel to coordinate recreation activities.

Prepare an operating budget summary for B/W/U recreation programs and provide budgetary guidelines for activity leaders.

Assist in soliciting for grants and sponsorship opportunities.

Monitor, record, and document financial transactions/commitments.

Recommend, implement, monitor, and advise on recreation policies and directives.

Prepare NPF Capital Expenditure Plan submissions for recreational activities.

Research external providers of similar recreation programs and services, including other B/W/Us, to develop new and effective practices.

Inspect equipment and facilities for safety, and ensure corrective action is taken.

Ensure safety and control procedures and regulations are being observed.

Apply NPF policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable legislation.

Ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Program and may act as a member of a local NPF Committee.

Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies or Community Development, or a related field

OR

College diploma or certificate in Recreation Leisure Studies or Community Development or a related field, AND some years of experience in recreation administration, or a related field

AND

Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications

HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport (successful completion by end of probation)

HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 (successful completion by end of probation)

HIGH FIVE Healthy Minds for Healthy Children (successful completion by end of probation)

Experience

In planning and evaluating the operations and delivery of recreation programs

In applying policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable legislation

In budget administration

In personnel administration

Competencies

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English Essential / Bilingual (English and French) an asset

OTHER INFORMATION

Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (i.e. more than 10 lbs/4.5 kg but less than 50 lbs/23 kg).

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.

This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.
