THE ROLE

Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the incumbent will perform maintenance of golf course equipment in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, ensuring safe and reliable operations at all times; inspect and test engines, motors and other mechanical components using test devices to diagnose and isolate faults; advise the Superintendent of requirements and/or replacement of components for golf course equipment; train personnel to ensure equipment is properly maintained; adjust, repair or replace mechanical or electrical system parts and components to ensure availability of maintenance equipment; etc.

As an integral part of the grounds maintenance department, you will be trained on different equipment in order to maintain all playing surfaces on a 18 hole golf course. You will maintain greens, tee box areas, turf on fairways, sand traps and rough. You will perform basic horticultural duties such as planting and pruning trees, shrubs and flowers, creating, maintaining flowerbeds, spreading topsoil, laying sod, planting flowers and assist with the construction of a landscape and related structures.

You will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing golf course buildings, structures and accessories such as fences, benches and stakes, removing rocks from fairways and repairing and filling fairway and tee divots.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

College diploma or certificate in Mechanics, or a related field, AND some years of experience in mechanics or a related field

OR

High school diploma AND several years of experience in mechanics or a related field

OR

A demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. This includes but is not limited to demonstrated military education, training or experience

AND

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification

Valid Driver’s Licence (Province)

Experience

In a mechanical trade

In welding

In landscaping or grounds maintenance

In operating specialized turf care equipment

In small engine repair

Competencies
