Job Summary
The Manager, Solution and System Integration is responsible for the successful deployment of advanced Telecom solutions, specifically in the domain of Video Surveillance, Wifi, Cellular Access Infrastructure and Telephony. The role leads a solution design and integration team for these domains and ensures that all business requirements are met by the project team members and contributes to the global evolution of CN’s Information and Technology (I&T). The incumbent is a key player in the organization, making sure the team delivers solutions that are secured, reliable, available, resilient, performant, and aligned with business requirements and architecture patterns.
Main Responsibilities
People Leadership
· Focus on communications and foster collaboration by regularly providing updates to teams about ongoing initiatives and encouraging teams to work together to accomplish common goals and learning
· Create and enable a positive and engaging work environment by ensuring individual strengths are uncovered and leveraged through frequent and focused conversations
· Partner with Human Resources (HR) to bring new talent to the organization by determining which skills and roles will be required in the future and by making thoughtful hiring decisions promoting diversity
· Provide a positive and welcoming onboarding experience to all new employees by ensuring they have access to the tools and resources needed to fulfill the requirements of their job
· Recognize employee milestones as well as significant contributions and enhanced responsibilities
· Participate in succession planning by contributing to the yearly talent review cycle and identifying employees with the potential to move up the management and technical paths
· Create a development plan for the team and support employee development by having regular career conversations with all employees and supporting them in reaching their career goals
· Ensure knowledge is preserved through cross-training for key skill sets in the team and within the organization
· Manage employee performance by ensuring employees who are not meeting expectations are identified and supported through the performance improvement process
Technical Leadership
· Review design decisions, technical blueprints and functional designs (e.g., technical low-level design) ensuring team is aligned with existing patterns and solution architecture documents
· Perform upper management technical presentations
· Support activities to transfer new solutions to the Operational Support teams (T2C) as well as support and supervise change controls done by the team
· Support deployment and migration strategy as well as guide project team and operations
· Engage with the team internal customers to capture functional and non-functional requirements
· Ensure team solution documents (e.g., solution designs, deployment instructions, test procedures, test reports) are completed as per templates and standards with high level of quality
Project Delivery and Technology Innovation Leadership
· Participate with Product Managers to define the roadmap (hardware and software) based on CN strategy and I&T technology needs
· Participate in project scoping and estimates working closely with all stakeholders
· Support Project Managers during the project delivery phase and helps remove roadblocks
· Support Team Proof of Concept (POC) and Proof of Technology (POT) in Lab to test new solutions, configurations and software
· Manage the Telecom Lab and Telecom Warehouse facilities
· Work with the Procurement team and with vendors and partners to resolve issues and address present and upcoming requirements
· Develop strong partnerships with Architecture, Delivery and Operations teams to provide feedback on deployment challenges and gaps
· Identify opportunities to optimize and improve current processes and solutions
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress, The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. The role may require occasional business travel in accordance with CN policy for meetings, for field site deployment activities or to attend industry events or conferences.
Requirements
Experience
· Technology
· Minimum 10 years of experience in diverse technical roles
· Between 3 to 5 years of experience supervising direct employees
Education/Certification/Designation
· Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field of study, or equivalent work experience
· Master’s Degree in the technology field*
o *Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
